Way to go, Gorilla's!!

Despite slightly cool temperatures, it was, to paraphrase IronJack, 'the nicest day for racing ever at Texas Motor Speedway' and the Gorilla's who braved the cold posted some great results for their efforts.

Official results aren't up online yet, but I did see at least three GMS athletes walk away with hardware.......Stephanie Bassin - Overall Master's Female......Kristi Wynne - 1st W40-44........and Jim Sisung - 3rd >40 Clydesdale in his FIRST multisport event!

The Gorilla gang in attendance included Dave Bauerle, Dawn Smith, Peter Chan, Roy Florez (another rookie racer!), Kim McLaughlin, JP Horne and Shawna De Puente. And that doesn't include the official GMS cheering squad and fan club! Suffice to say.......the Gorilla's were out in force enjoying a fabulous day of racing!

G

Very nice day for a race. A little cool but not to bad. I got a good transition spot and wramed up good. There was very little wind and the temperature was around 38 degrees.

First Run Leg (2 miles): I felt good and pushed hard. I have my time at 13:18 minutes (6:39 pace) the results page showed a 13:43 (6:52 pace). I am not sure why there was such a difference but either way I was happy with the result.

Bike leg (16 miles): My heart rate was a little high coming off the run and took a little while to settle down. I kept a steady pace. There were no hills which was good and bad. Good because you don't have to go uphill, bad because there was no placed to rest. It was like being on a trainer. Just pushing as hard as you can without rest. I averaged 20 mph for a time of 48:09. My averade power was 212 Watts. I was a little disapointed with this perfarmance, I wanted to be closer to 21 mph.

Second Run Leg (2 miles): A little sluggish coming off the bike, but after the first half mile I felt good and was able to push. I had my time at 14:30 minutes (7:15 pace) the results page had me at 14:07 minutes (7:04 pace). Once again I am not sure why there was a difference, but I was very happy with my run efforts.

Overall: My overall time was 1:18:57 for a 9th place finish in my 45-49 age group. Overall I finished 89th out of 320 people. It was a good way to start off the season.

Thanks to Gail and all of the Gorilla's that came out to support us in the race. It is good to hear the cheering and words of encouragement.<img src='http://www.gorillamultisport.com/Providers/HtmlEditorProviders/Fck/FCKeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/regular_smile.gif' alt=''
